Unfortunately at this time default 3dsmax Vray will not output a correctly optimized Multi element EXR (external programs i.e NUKE allowing only loading of elements that are requested. This saves on load/read time).
Vray 3.3 has added a option in the render elements called VRayOptionRE.

While most maps in max allow you to change its “color map” with the graph, bump maps cannot use it.
You can test this for yourself:
- Add a image to a bump map
- Go in to the maps setting and scroll down to Output
- Enable Color Map
- Adjust the RGB or MONO
- Example take the white point from 1.0 to 0.2
- While the image will change the bump settings will not.
